TPS22950: RILIM Fault Scenarios

Part Number: TPS22950

Hello,

What would happen with this device if RILIM were to become floating? Or shorted to ground?

Thanks,

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

If the RILIM were to become floating or shorted to ground, this would result in an unknown current limit likely outside the recommended operating condition of the device as shown below:

I have reached out to design to see if they have any specific guidance on this fault condition, however the following statements hold true:

Operation outside the recommended operating specification is not ideal as there could be significant variation(timing, on resistance, response to inputs, etc) from datasheet specifications as these were characterized under the recommended operating conditions.

If the customer does not follow the recommended operating conditions, that is the customer’s right, but then TI cannot guarantee operation and functionality.

    Best Regards,

    Elizabeth

  • Thank you for the feedback Elizabeth!

Please let me know if you receive any additional info from the design team around the specifics of the fault condition.

  • Hi Michael,

I have heard back from design who have provided some guidance on your fail condition.

If Ilim pin is grounded, Ilim could be over 2A as Imax, potentially damaging the device.

If Ilim floats, the Ilim might not function as expected. I would suggest keeping the Rlim in the recommended range (0.05A to 2A typ).

    Best Regards,

    Elizabeth
