TPS564257: Recommendation for DC-DC converters with <8A average current limit

Hi,

We would like to get recommendation about the DC-DC converter parts. Our requirements are below.

Vin = 5V
Vout = 1V
Output ≧ 4A
Fixed average current limit <8A

Note that "valley current" limit of <8A is not sufficient for our use case, but If its low enough, it might be good when appropriate frequency and inductor are selected.

We are considering TPS564257 for now but we would like to know if there are better parts available.

Hi Keita,

I'm slightly confused about the loading, please help to confirm the rated output current and maximum output current.

Please let me know if you have other requests such as high efficiency, ripple, low Iq, soft start or low cost, etc.

If no more requests, TPS564257 is a good part for your choice if the output current is no more than 4A. It's low cost and easy to use.

Thank you for the answer. It would be preferable to have 5A of rated current to future proof our component inventory. Do you have any suggestion?

If no more special requests, I think TPS565247 is a good choice with low cost and easy-to-use feature.

It does not meet our requirements because valley current limit of TPS565247 is >8A.

What about TPS565208, its maximum value of IOCL is 8A.

Hi Keita,

I_OCL is the inductor valley current when low-side FET on. It's not an average output current.

If Over Current Protection is triggered, the value of average output current equals I_OCL+ I_inductor_ripple/2.

We don't have devices limiting its average current, because the average current is also related to the application especially the inductance.

As said by Athos, I_OCL is the inductor valley current. Could TPS564257 meet your requirement? If the rated current requirement is 4A, it will be a good choice.
