BQ40Z50: Conditions for a successful Shutdown

Part Number: BQ40Z50
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hello TI,

I am currently testing the Shutdown command, by sending two time the Shutdown command to a Sealed Gauge within 4 seconds. Normally all Gauges go into shutdown mode after I send the commands, but some batteries with Max Error=6% do not go into Shutdown mode. Are they any other conditions that need to be fulfilled for the gas gauge to go into Shutdown mode?

Thanks and regards,

-Enrique

  • Hello Enrique,

If the gauge is sealed you cannot directly enter shutdown mode, you will need to wait for the delay period. If the voltage on PACK pin is above the startup threshold the gauge will also not enter shutdown mode. It is not related to the max error parameter.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hello Wyatt

Thanks for the response, unsuccessfully, even after sending the command twice and waiting the delay period (and this is working for basically all other batteries) this not working for some. There is also no electrical connection PACK pin so the voltage is not the root cause.

Is there any way to identify why this gauge is not going into Shutdown mode?

  • Hello Enrique,

Usually there is some voltage on the PACK pin that is keeping the gauge awake so even after the command it does not enter shutdown. Can you send a short bqstudio log when you send the shutdown so we can see what happens just before?

    Sincerely,
