LMG3422R030: question regarding LMG342xR030.

Part Number: LMG3422R030
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP23216, PMP23209, UCC25800, TIDA-010203

Hi Team,

Good day. I am posting this inquiry on behalf of the customer.

  1. In Fingerprint model of LMG342, there are some pins that are at the surface of the component. I think this is for connecting to heatsink. Am I right???? Should I connect those to the pcb ground at the second layer through vias????? Should I use solid vias ???? And, then connect the ground to heatsink?
  2. Please let me know more information on the connection of pin 55 to  118 on PCB?
  3. What Zener diode models, D1& D6,  are connected between LD05 and 12V supply gate driver? Can I have the part number which are available  in the stock for those?
  4. What SW stand for? Is it VSW Net?
  5. what is ISO _12V_L and ISO _12V_H?
  6. What digital isolator power supply is recommended by Texas Instrument between 12v and the gate driver? Can I have the component model number?
  7. what is 5V_H at second side of digital isolator, Is it VSw? Is it also connect to EN of the digital isolator?
  8. Regarding FPGA code to control LMG34, Is it necessary  to read OC, Fault , and temp from the device? IS there any available control code for LMG34?

  • Hi Marvin,

I believe the customer would find a lot of information helpful on the LMG342xEVM User Guide. Please have them refer to this to have a more thorough understanding of the LMG3422 implementation as a half-bridge.

    1. I am not sure which pins are being referred to here. All the pins on the LMG3422 device are surface mount. To connect the heatsink, please refer to the LMG342x User Guide - there are images on page 8 that show the heatsink implementation. The heatsink should not be connected to ground. Solid or hollow vias should be used depending on your thermal design. The EVM uses solid vias for better thermal dissipation.

    2. Could you please clarify which pins are being referred to here? I am not able to find pin 118 on any schematic.

    3. D1 is GB01SLT06-214 and D6 is BZT52C16-7-F. The entire bill of materials is found in the EVM user guide mentioned above.

4.Yes, SW is the same as the VSW Net.

    5. ISO_12V_L and ISO_12V_H are provided by the isolated bias supplies. These supplies can be implemented as shown in schematic on page 10 of the user guide mentioned above. Two isolated 12-V rails are provided through a push-pull transformer. The device used is SN6505DBVR. Another implementation of these bias supplies can be seen in PMP23209 or PMP23216.

    6. As mentioned above, there are various ways to implement these isolated bias supplies -  SN6505DBVR is used in the EVM and UCC25800 is used in PMP23209 and PMP23216.

    7. 5V_H is the bias power for the high-side digital isolator as well as the enable signal for the digital isolator. Every signal and power supply rail for the high-side device is reference to the Vsw node.

8.It is not necessary to read OC, fault, or temp from the device. These signals provide flexibility for robust system protection but sensing them or interfacing is not required for operating the devices. There is no specific control code available for LMG34xx. However, please have a look at TIDA-010203 which is a reference design controlled with our C2000 family of microcontrollers.
