TPS536C7: Need 8+0 configuration

Part Number: TPS536C7

Customer currently has the TPS536C7 configured for 8+2 phase configuration.  They are thinking of removing the B phases and operating in a 8+0 configuration.

Is the only way to configure this is with the PIN_DETECT_ OVERRIDE command and use the PHASE_CONFIGURE command?  Customer is trying to avoid more programming.

Could they keep the 8+2 configuration but not enable phase B by keeping BVR_EN pin low? Or use the 11+0 default and not connect three power stages?

  • Hi Mark,

Are you saying the customer has configuration for 8+2, but they want to implement it for an 8+0 design?

They could use the 8+2 configuration, but not connect the second rail and have the BVR_EN pin low, BTSEN floating, BVSP/N to GND.

I believe the pin_detect_override command and use phase_configure through the fusion GUI is the easier method.

    Best,
    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

Yes the customer currently has the configuration set for 8+2 but are thinking of changing to 8+0. The second rail would be provided by a different discrete controller (TI).  This is to ease some layout challenges.
