TPS54J061: About the Rtrip range

Part Number: TPS54J061

Hi Team,

Datasheet shown that our Rtrip range as below :

That said if Rtrip at between 0~3.16K, then the OC point will be 8.1~9A , right?

My question will be if the Rtrip > 30.1K, what will happen ? Is it will limit at a certain current or it can follow below formula?

I asking this question is my customer plan use this part for all those part 0~6A power rail, when small current application such like 0.5A, if they want to protect at 0.7A, it that ok? Such like place a 42.8K Rtrip?

Thanks!

BR,

Kai

  • Hi Kai,

For your first question: yes, if Rtrip is between 0 to 3.16K Ohms, then the current limit clamp is between 8.1 to 9 A.

For your second question, we do not recommend going over the 30.1K Ohm threshold for the Rtrip. This is because the Ilim value will get too low and the circuit will not be able to accurately read the current. This could lead to noise and accuracy issues. There are other devices that TI offers which have a current maximum of 1 A and should be able to better suit your needs of protecting at 0.7A.

    Thanks!
