Hi ti Team,

My application needs to remove the battery frequently. Does bq24179 support battery in-place detection?

When the test Bq24179 has no battery, the voltage at the Vbat end will jump from 0V to 8.4V. Is this normal? Is there any way to make the Vbat voltage close to Vsysy without a battery?

Hi switch,

This is expected behavior when no battery is attached, no TS fault due to missing thermistor, charge is enabled and termination is enabled. If you want BAT close to SYS, disable termination.

Hi Switch,

No, the chip cannot detect no battery. Some customers write host software that monitors for rapid fast charge and termination status and then turns on the BAT pin pull down resistor to see if BAT pin falls, indicating no battery.

Vbat and Vsys are still quite differen，disable termination.

Hi Switch,

With termination disabled and charge enabled, V(BAT) should regulate near V(VSYS) unless either is hitting OVP. If OVP, then the converter turns off briefly until the OVP condition is removed. If charge is disabled, this will not happen.
