TPS628503: Junction temperature

Part Number: TPS628503
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS628502-Q1,

Hi team,

How to understand the junction temperature for the TPS628502-Q1 and TPS628503-Q1?

Is the Tj 105 °C for TPS628502-Q1 in continuous output, too?

BRs,
Haury

  • Hello Huary,

Let me check this with the device team internally. Then I will get back to you.

    Thanks,

    Farheen

  • Hello Huary,

TPS628502-Q1 can reach upto junction temperature of 150 degrees for 2A continuous current but it can degrade the device. That is why, for longer number of hours, 105 degrees is recommended to avoid degradation of device.

Same statement is valid for TPS628503 part also in case of 2A continuous current.

    Thanks,

    Farheen

  • Hi Farheen,

    Thanks for your reply.

Could you give a further explanation for the "degrade the device"?

    BRs,

    Haury

  • Hello Huary,

    I meant performance degradation.

    Thanks,

    Farheen

  • Hi Farheen,

For TPS628502-Q1, it supports 150℃ Tj, 2A continuous current is recommended to be used at 105 Tj
For TPS628503-Q1, which supports 150°C Tj, and 3A continuous current is recommended to be used at 85 Tj

Is it correct for the upper understanding?

Meanwhile, it shown that the two devices can support 150Tj in the spec.

For TPS628503-Q1, how much continuous output current can the device support, when we consider it according to 150℃ Tj?

For TPS628502-Q1, how much continuous output current can the device support, when we consider it according to 150℃ Tj?

    BRs,

    Haury

  • Hello  Huary,

This is the general TI qualification method andthat is how we test our devices.  So device can provide the maximum ouput current for 100k hours and with minimum goal of FIT rate @Tj of 105 degrees.  You can find more information related to qualification data here (https://www.ti.com/qualificationsummary/qualsumm/home) You have to enter the part number.

Exceeding the limit for long number of hours can degrade the device and reduce the lifetime.

Here I am rearranging the words in my above statement "TPS628502-Q1 can reach upto junction temperature of 150 degrees for 2A current but not not for long number of hours because it can degrade the device. That is why, for longer number of hours, 105 degrees is recommended to avoid degradation of device."

    Thanks,

    Farheen
