BQ20Z95 fet control

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ29330

I need to remotely turn off the discharge fet. I have a 5.1K ohm resistor between pin 1(DSG) of the Z95 chip and the gate of the discharge FET. What is the maximum current that Z95 can source from pin1? If I ground the discharge fet with the DSG turned on 4 ma will source from pin 1. Is this OK?

  • Here is a plot of the bq29330 DSG FET drive. You can see it is in the uA range. I don’t think you will damage the DSG pin by pulling it low with an external source, since it is simply a capacitor connected to the pin supplying the charge. Once the cap is empty, it just stops driving. I haven’t seen any schematics with external FET drive of the DSG pin, so I would recommend some extensive testing before using it in practice.
