Good day!

I need help because I am new to the world of power delivery, so I started a new project that needs a fast charger, for this reason I learn about it.
I describe the project below.

The first time we use a raspberry pi zero W, this model does not have a USB Type-C, so we do not need USB3.0 data transfer but fast charging.

My block diagram is as follows.

I confius about power delivery system so I have some questions that I would like to be answered.

1.- I see this component TUSB546A that used for bridg of Type-C to raspberry in this case, this is correct?

2.- BQ25792 this component can communicate with the raspberry to read the battery level or only communication is with PD TPS25750?

3.- TUSB546A and TPS25750 is compatible?

4.- Is there a tutorial that explains in more detail the operation of a complete system?

yes i know my question is basic and i need to read and learn more about this topic but i am confused about this and i need to solve these questions to clear my mind.

So, if you have a any suggestion please share me.

Hi Cesar,

1. TUSB546 is a redriver mux to redirect the TX/RX and SBU1/2 lines for Display Port, AUX and USB Super Speed based on cable orientation. The PD controller can control the TUSB either through GPIO or I2C depending on the requirement. Here is a simple block diagram showing how it implements in a system with PD, GPU and USB Host (Raspberry Pi Zero in this case):

2. The PD controller (TPS25750) has built-in I2C firmware that will configure and operate the BQ25792 for charging and sourcing power. During certain events (such as sourcing), the TPS25750 will send I2C commands to the BQ25792 to do a certain action (i.e. set output voltage on VBUS to 9V/3A). You could use the Raspberry Pi with I2C to read the BQ registers but that might cause a multi-master issue if the PD controller is also trying to talk to the BQ.

3. You should be able to use TPS25750 GPIO to control TUSB546. Using the Application Customization Tool (GUI link can be found on https://www.ti.com/product/TPS25750). For the TUSB546 part, I recommend creating another e2e thread directing your question towards the TUSB team in order to find out which pins need to be configured.

4. The datasheet and host interface document are a good starting point for understanding the TPS25750 and it's capabilities/features (I will link them below). For evaluation, you can refer to our TPS25750EVM and User Guide for additional information.

Hi Cesar,

As another follow-up recommendation on the PD side, if you're looking to support Alternate Modes such as Display Port then I recommend taking a look at TPS65987/9 series. TPS25750 only supports power delivery and recognizing up to USB3.2 Gen 2 capable device.
