TLV757P: TLV75733PDRVR Maximum Output Capacitor

Part Number: TLV757P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A47

Hi

Hope you can help with the following questions. We are using TLV75733PDRVR in our design but can see in the datasheet that the maximum output capacitor is 200uF.
What happens if larger capacitors is used? We need around 500uF in total on our 3.3V net.
Can TLV75733PDRVR handle this or will it get unstable? Can you recommend another part that can handle the 500uF? We need around 500mA and dropout of max 0.3V@500mA

  • Hi Kaare,

The TLV757P was characterized with 200uF but this does not mean it is unstable above this.  You can use an EVM to test the stability with your actual load applied.  It is usually the lower end of the capacitance that is a true limit, where if you use less than what is recommended on the datasheet the device will go unstable.

You might also be interested in the TPS7A47, this device is used a lot in the music industry due to its high PSRR and low noise performance.  It needs 10uF or larger on the output.

    Thanks,

    Stephen
