UCC256403: UCC256403DDBR transformer and external inductor calculator tool

Part Number: UCC256403

Hi team,

I have two question here.

1. If we would like to design 54V/4.6A spec, Could I use 54V/6.9A to design LLC Resonant?

2.  Do we have UCC256403DDBR transformer and external inductor calculator tool or document can refer for the min number of laps and unsaturated inductance.

BR,

Jimmy

  • Hi Jimmy,

Could you please clarify regarding your first question? You want to design the LLC at higher power rating (54V/6.9A) and then you want to use it at a lower power rating (54V/4.6A)?

You can certainly do that. But may I ask the reason why do you want to do this way?

    1. If we would like to design 54V/4.6A spec, Could I use 54V/6.9A to design LLC Resonant?

We do have the design calculator. It gives what values of LLC tank elements to use. However, it doesn't include magnetics design calculations.

  • Hi Manikanta,

1.The reason is that the real situation's full load is 54V/4.6A, I'm not pretty sure should I use over load(54V/6.9A) when I design LLC Resonant tank or not. Is it correct to use over load's situation to design resonant tank? or I should use real situation's full load 54V/4.6A to design resonant tank?

2.Do we have relevant information on magnetic components for reference?

3.What does fN(Mg_max) and fN(Mg_min) mean at calculator tool line 103 and 104? how can I get both value on this diagram?

    4. Does LLC calculates the number of transformer saturation turns different from Flyback?

  • Hi Jimmy,

You can design the LLC power stage for 10% overloading.

Do we have relevant information on magnetic components for reference?

Please see the section 18 of this app note for magnetics design: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sluaal2

What does fN(Mg_max) and fN(Mg_min) mean at calculator tool line 103 and 104? how can I get both value on this diagram?

You will have to hover on the gain curve as suggested in the following screenshot.

For more details on the design calculator, please see the design example of the app note in page number 21: Designing an LLC Resonant Half-Bridge Power Converter Article

Does LLC calculates the number of transformer saturation turns different from Flyback?

    Yes. You are correct.

I would recommend reading the app note: Designing an LLC Resonant Half-Bridge Power Converter Article
