Hello TI Team,

I am using BQ27z561 fuel gauge & BQ25601 Charger. We need to perform learning cycle with 4000 mAh #18650 battery.

I need to know the full steps of learning cycle. I am following the "How to Complete a Successful Learning Cycle for the
bq40z80" document. Is there any document related to BQ27z561.
What parameters I need to set in BQStudio for learning cycle?
How hardware connection setup should be? The charger is required in performing learning cycle?

Can you please help with the above queries?

Hey Shivani,

1. I would recommend reading this version of the document, as it is applicable to all our impedance track gauges: https://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/an/slua903/slua903.pdf
2. For the learning cycle, you will need to set theses parameters: Dsg Current Threshold, Chg Current Threshold, Quit Current Threshold, Design Capacity, Design Energy, Design Voltage, Taper Current Threshold, and Terminate Voltage,
3. The hardware should implement the gauge with the battery. Then you can charge and discharge the battery through a charger, or you can use a DC power supply.

I am following the document https://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/an/slua903/slua903.pdf, you shared.

In this document, after setting the required parameter, first we need to discharge the battery as per Section 3.2.1. But in this Section 3.2.1, the discharge rate is not mentioned. So, by how much rate we need to discharge?

Hello Shivani,

For the first discharge, the discharge rate is of no consequence. However, I would recommend using a rate of C/5.

Thanks for the input.

Before doing the learning cycle, I need to generate the Chemistry ID. For that I have generated the Chem ID for our battery. The Report I have attached here.

As per report, the Best Chem ID is 212. Now I need to program this ID into gauge. So, I tried to program it as below:

My Chemistry ID 212 is not listed in the list. Also in report I didn't get the GPCRB file.

So, how can I program the Chem ID? What is the procedure to program the Chem ID generated by GPC.?

Hello Shivani,

I looked over the report file that you sent over. I notice that the DOD error was at 9.25%, usually we recommend having the DOD error less than 3%. Can you please send the files that you submitted into the GPCCHEM tool.

Hey Shivani,

What chemistry of battery are you using? Can you also send me the datasheet for the battery? I looked at the data you sent and noticed that the data is not logged in regular intervals. Is it possible to have the data logged in regular intervals like every 5 or 10 seconds.

Hello Nick,

We are using #18650 4000mAh battery. We don't have the datasheet. How can I configured the log interval of Registers?

As per my understanding for chemistry ID generation,, it is not required to configured any parameter in BQStudio, right?

Hey Shivani,

Yes you are correct. You do not need to configure any parameter in BQStudio.
To configure the log interval, go to "Window". Then go to "Preferences". Next, click on "Registers" then you can change the value in "Scan/Log Interval". I would recommend to change it to 10,000 milliseconds.
