LMQ66430: Which current souce is used imput current or output current to enter hiccup over current protection mode after output short current?

Part Number: LMQ66430

Hello Theam

we'd like to know the trigger to enter hiccup mode.

For example,,,

-Signal source (imput current , output current or toher)

  -Measurement point

If it is necessary to answer this question that wave form by oscilloscope or other tecnical detail.

  • Hi Shinichi,

This is what can trigger hiccup mode:

An example of the device entering hiccup mode is if there's a short circuit event at VOUT. Here the device attempts to turn the FET on, it hits current limit, then the device times out for a bit before trying again. At the end it's able to recover the VOUT voltage as the short circuit has been eliminated.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Hello Andrew

    Thank you for your reply.

I'd like to ask about behavior of the device, including the measurement waveform.
So I'd like to have a private exchange.

And I have some question about your answer.

Is the FET you mentioned as examples High Side FET?
Are the conditions for entering HICCUP the same as the conditions for maintaining HICCUP?
Do all three conditions listed on DS need to be enter HICCUP mode? Or is it enough to satisfy even one?

  • Hi Shinichi,

Feel free to message me, and I'll see what I can do.

    1. The device checks for both high side and low side current limit:

    2. Yes, if the device turns on to check the status after a Hiccup timeout, and finds one of those conditions then it returns to Hiccup mode.

    3. Only one of those conditions has to be met in order for the device to stay in hiccup mode.

    Thanks,
    Andrew
