TPS61094: Toggling MODE pin during operation

Part Number: TPS61094

Hello,

It's not stated explicitly in the datasheet.

  1. Can you toggle the MODE pin during operation of the device?
  2. Or, do you need to set the device into shutdown mode, then change the MODE pin, then re-enable the device?

Nick

  • Hi Nick,

You can toggle the MODE during operation, it is no problem.

  • Hi Nathan,

I was testing with the TPS61094 with Vin from a Buck source and noticed a weird behavior when we keep MODE and EN at 1 with a 3.3V coin cell. Since Vin is not up instantly, the TPS61094 went into bypass mode EN=0 MODE= 0, Vout = Vin and my supercap is not charging.

Is there a specific timing that links Vin with EN and MODE? Does all 3 of them need to be turned on instantaneously for a Auto Buck Boost Mode?

The plan now is to toggle MODE with a GPIO and keep EN powered.

  • Hi Julius,

Sorry I am a little confused about how your system works. Do you mean at the beginning, EN=MODE=1, but VIN=0V, and TPS61094 works in bypass mode ?

Set EN and MODE = 1 is ok for Auto Buck Boost mode, no specific timing requirements.

    Regards,

    Nathan
