TPS546B24A: HW setting and read Vout_mode register questions

Part Number: TPS546B24A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS546D24A

Hi,

It was already HW setting design in our current schematic.

Since we need to read Vout_mode register for thermal and current information by PMBus.

Can we only change VOUT_MODE[7] and program, then others are the same as previous HW setting  and don’t have changed current schematic for TPS546B24A?

Thanks,

Danny Chin

HW setting in our current schematic:

  • Hi Danny,

The VOUT_MODE can only be changed through a PMBus command.

You can keep the same HW schematic, however you'll have to write to the device NVM (EEPROM) to have it hold the setting.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks,

    Joseph

  • Hi Joseph,

Thank you. Double confirm with you.

So we can write to the device NVM (EEPROM) for changed VOUT_MODE only.

Then we can keep the HW setting and don't have changed in schematic, right?

Also, do you have on-line program FW code SOP (only change VOUT_MODE) and provide for me?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Danny,

Yes, you can write to the device NVM (EEPROM) to change VOUT_MODE only.

A good way to do this would be to use the Fusion GUI: FUSION_DIGITAL_POWER_DESIGNER Application software & framework | TI.com

What exactly are you looking for with "FW code SOP"?

    Thanks,

    Joseph

  • Hi Joseph,

I would like to write to the device NVM (EEPROM) to change VOUT_MODE only (on-line program),

could you tell me and how to do?

Also, for TPS546D24ARVFR part, can we write to the device NVM (EEPROM) to change VOUT_MODE only as TPS546B24ARVFR,right?

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Danny,

Yes, you can do this through the FUSION GUI that I linked above. Once you have downloaded it, you'll need to connect the device to PC running the GUI over PMBus. You can also do this for TPS546D24A.

When Fusion is open and the device is powered with VIN and connected through PMBus

    1) Select the device

    2) Go to the System View

    3) Click the "Click to configure device"

    4) Under the ALL config tab, find the VOUT_MODE setting

    5) Set to your desired setting

    6)  Click "Write to Hardware" and Store Config to NVM

    7) Power cycle the device to make sure the settings are held correctly.

Let me know if you have any other questions

    Thanks,

    Joseph
