We are using the charging IC mcp73871 with 5V input supply that is coming from the buck but when the VBAT is not connected it is still showing 4.2V at battery terminal.

Please check the schematics.

Hello Monika,

MCP73871 is a MICROCHIP device, not a Texas Instruments IC. You will have to contact Microchip concerning this IC.

Actually, we are using boost IC of TPS61023 at battery output is providing the voltage of 2.4V at output in case of no input voltage.
