[FAQ] BQ24800: I am using sense resistor values other than 10mΩ to extend the input current range, but the GUI does not display this extended range.

Part Number: BQ24800

The GUI display is written based on 10mΩ sense resistors, so the IIN_HOST register (0x3F) displays the same setting values regardless of the input sense resistor used. Therefore, the user needs to convert/scale the setting values themselves based on the input current sense resistor used in order to achieve their desired IIN_HOST value.

This conversion is linear. For example, if using a 7mΩ input sense resistor, the current will be 10/7 = 1.43x the value of the displayed register setting. Similarly, if using a 5mΩ input current sense resistor, the current doubles.

The maximum input current limit still applies when using different sense resistors. If a charger is configured for a maximum input current limit of 10A, the IIN_HOST register can be set up to the 5000mA setting which is really 10,000mA. When attempting to set this register to a value greater than 5000mA, the host will reset it 5000mA.
