eFuse part suggestion for a downstream device with significant inrush but low steady-state current

Part Number: TPS25980EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25982, TPS25985

Hello E2E,

We have a part which, upon application of power, pulls current in 2-3 1ms spikes of 20-22A over the span of 5ms while the steady-state current is below 2A. It is a 24V part. A trace of the current (10A/V clamp probe scale) is included below.

Per the recommendations here, we paralleled two TPS25980EVMs (with the part swapped for TPS2598070 to remove OVLO) and configured both for the highest current limit, retry rate, retry quantity, and blanking interval,, but were not able to successfully power on the part with one eFuse's PG chained to the other's EN as recommended. We can provide a trace of the EVMs' ILIM/ITIMER pins during this sequence if needed. Removing the jumper between PG1 and EN2 did result in successful power-on of the downstream part. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be a configuration TI recommends.

Do you have recommendations for a higher-current TI eFuse part which can tolerate this 20A inrush? We would rather not run multiple TPS2598070 in parallel without EN/PG as that is not recommended.

We are looking at TPS25982 but are uncertain that a single IC can tolerate the required inrush.

Thank you!
