TPS25830-Q1: Question for MFI VBUS SPEC with TPS2583x-Q1 and TPS2584x-Q1

Part Number: TPS25830-Q1

Hello Team:

I am designing a game controller for iphone/ipad and have a question for MFI VBUS drop question.

According to TI document  "How to Pass MFi VBUS Spec with USB Charger TPS2583x-Q1 and TPS2584x-Q1", the VBUS drop spec using non lighting connector as below

<1A load, VBUSmin>4.90V

>1A load, VBUSmin>4.97V

on other hand,  the VBUS drop spec using lighting is

<1A load, VBUSmin>4.70V

>1A load, VBUSmin>4.55V

It confused me, the spec using lighting is no problem for me, becasue when load incerase IR loss making VBUS drop bigger.

So my question is using non-lighting connector like type-C, why its VBUSmin>1A load higher than VBUSmin<1A load?

  • Hi Leon,

You mean the below table? But I can't find the 'lighting spec' in our document, I guess you may find this spec in the Apple document? right? And for the ''<1A load, VBUSmin>4.90V, >1A load, VBUSmin>4.97V'', they are the Apple requirement, I guess they may consider the cable compensation, so the VBUSmin is bigger in the 'current>1A'.

    Best Regards,

    Kuno
