BQ4050: SOC after shutdown

Part Number: BQ4050

Hi I'm working with this BMS based on bq4050 and I have problems with the State Of Charge. When I wake up the battery after sending it to Shutdown to reduce the discharge the Relative State of Charge has changed. Could be that the BMS needs a cycle of charge and discharge to recalculate it? Does the BMS disconnect the DSG FET if the SOC is so low or does it just check the cell voltage?
Thanks

  • Hello Bangalii,

The device goes through a full reset when exiting from SHUTDOWN mode.

The CEDV algorithm mathematically models cell voltage (open-circuit voltage, OCV) as a function of battery state-of-charge (SOC), temperature, and current. The OCV voltage after the gauge exits shutdown might be off, leading to SOC jumps. It might require a charge/discharge cycle.

SOC is based on voltage. The gauge will use its CUV protection which will check for Min cell voltage ≤ CUV:Threshold. Once CUV conditions are met, it will turn-OFF the DSG FET. More details in Section 2.2 Cell Undervoltage Protection of the TRM
