UCC28220 / UCC28221 Low End Switching Frequency Range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28220, UCC28221

Has anyone used UCC28220 or UCC28221 with IGBTs? What is the low limit of switching frequency that these parts can opperate?

The datasheet Fig.19 indicates 43 KHz at the low end of characteristic curve when setting Rchrg = Rdischrg = 130 K Ohm.

Has anyone used these parts at 25 to 35 KHz range?

Thanks for the help!

  • I have not heard of anyone using these devices for IGBTs.  However, that does not meen they are not.  However, as you pointed out the switching frequency has been characterized from 45 kHz to roughly 1 MHz.  Since the IC designer did not characterize the switching frequency below 45 kHz I am not sure how well or if this device would work below 45 kHz.  There may be limitations inside the IC that will prevent it from working at these low switching frequencies.  Since the device was not characterized below 45 kHz I would not recommend using it below 45 kHz.
