BQ79731Q1EVM-060: Device disconnected problem

Part Number: BQ79731Q1EVM-060

I am trying to connect to the BQ79731Q1EVM with BQ797XX GUI and USB2Any. When I press "Wake up device" nothing happens (when J15 is closed). If J15 is off (open) and I press "Wake up device" red NFAULT LED lights up and current consumption goes from 30 mA to 70 mA. Then when I press  "Power down" LED goes off and and also current falls. I am powering The board with 5V. How can I get the communication running?

  • Hi,

To start communicating with the device, follow this procedure:

    1. Power up the device with either 5V or 12V

    2. Wake it up by sending a wake pulse in the GUI (in the ADC monitor tab)

    3. Auto-address the device (the button to do this is in the same tab). If you do this successfully you should see a row of zeroes populate in the ADC monitor tab.

You should be able to communicate with the device after following this procedure. I am assuming your jumper configuration is correct since the device is waking up properly. Please take a look at the "Quick Start" section in the BQ79731 EVM User's Guide to confirm this. It includes the jumper configuration for the SPI/UART configuration. If you do not already have access to the user's guide, you can request access here: https://www.ti.com/licreg/docs/swlicexportcontrol.tsp?form_id=334449&prod_no=BQ7973X-Q1_EVALUATION&ref_url=app_bms

Feel free to reply on this thread if you run into any more issues.

    Best,
