LM2576: DC-DC regulator to power a solenoid

Part Number: LM2576

Hi,

I am having trouble firing up my solenoid only at the lowest input voltage.

I have a system that is powered at 110V and 60Hz, and I have  a transformer from 110V to 24V and then I have a  diode bridge to rectify the voltage.

Then I lower the voltage to 12V to supply a solenoid.

When the input voltage is 100V the nominal 24V is around 15V and the 12V is fine but it cannot provide the current to turn on the solenoid (1.2A).

Could  you explain why and could you provide me with a solution, please?

I could try with a 9V solenoid but they are not easily available and I'm struggling to get hold of one. Any other suggestion please?

Thanks

Martina
