TUSB1046EVM: Using it!

Part Number: TUSB1046EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY

Hi TI Suppport,

I'm looking to develop an application using the TUSB1046 chip, and have purchased the EVM. Looking into the manual, looks like I'll need to provide a DP signal and a USB 3.0 host with power...do I need to any other tools or hardware to configure/setup/kickstart the EVM? I've an Aardvark (from Total Phase) and a USB2ANY (from you guys) I've used on other designs - do I need any other hardware?

  • Hi,

You will also need a USB Type-C re-device for USB operation and a Type-C monitor for DP operation. The PD controller on the EVM will automatically negotiate with the PD in the USB Type-C device or the monitor, and you should see the device gets recognize or the screen being outputted to the monitor.

A USB Type-C protocol analyzer from Ellisys (https://www.ellisys.com/products/ctr1/) will help debugging any PD negotiation issue.

    Thanks
    David

  • I forgot to mention that I do have a monitor with a DisplayPort connection, and a USB-C device on-hand. Wasn't sure if there was anything else I needed to run.

I was able to successfully plug in the EVM and it worked as intended! The USB-C output port will generate either a DisplayPort signal when connected to my monitor, or a USB connection through to my PC when connected to a peripheral device. Thanks!
