BQ28Z610-R1: Required PBI capacitor value

Guru 19645 points
Part Number: BQ28Z610-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ28Z610EVM-532

About PBI capacitor, datasheet is described that recommended: 2.2μF~.

However, BQ28Z610EVM-532 is using TDK: C1005X5R1C225M050BC and drop in DC bias is large.

Is it no problem?

Please let me know the background to choosing this capacitor.

And, what is the realistic minimum value?

Best regards,

Satoshi

  • Hello Satoshi,

PBI is a backup power input pin. This implies that the PBI power pin will only take place when the Vpack < Vshutdown (see below). For the most part according to the graph above, it seems like the chosen PBI capacitor will always operate within 1.5uF to 2uF.

Also it is good to mention that our Evaluation Board is not a referenced design. It can be a starting point for most of the designs, but customers should make their own design.
