BQ34Z100-R2: BQ34Z100EVM Evaluation module and EV2400 adapter

Part Number: BQ34Z100-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100EVM, EV2400, BQSTUDIO

I want to try BQ34Z100EVM to test the SOC and SOH accuracy on our 14S7P battery pack.

I want to know it is compulsory to use EV2400 USB adapter for calibration of device  and to use battery gauge software or I can use any I2C to USB adapter?

Can I access I2C pin directly to communicate with any MCU board?

Thanks and regards,
Monica

  • Hello Monica,

In theory it is possible to use any I2C to USB adapter. This requires sending each individual command based on reading and understanding the TRM. A simple step can consist of many commands.

We recommend that you use EV2400 and bqStudio as it simplifies the process of programming and logging data. It saves a lot of development time and possibility of mistakes. If you have trouble with the gauge, the only way for TI to help is by sharing data collected through bqStudio.

  • Okay. Thanks a lot for the clarification.
