BQ4050EVM-561: Programing EVM

Part Number: BQ4050EVM-561
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ4050

I want to be able to charge and discharge LiFePO4 battery right now, without having FG accuracy.

Using the BQ4050 EVM with the below specifications:

Vcharge = 3.65V

Nom Full capacity = 1500mAhrs.

How do I do this simply, using BQ Studio?

Thanks!

  • Hello Jack,

    To charge and discharge without fuel gauge accuracy, the gauge simply needs to know at what voltage to stop the charge and at what voltage to stop the discharge.

    A quick work around for this is to use the protections to trigger the FETs when either max or min voltage has been reached.

    You can set COV and CUV under Data Memory Tab (see below). More information on how to set these can be found in Sections 2.2 Cell Undervoltage Protection and 2.3 Cell Overvoltage Protection from the TRM.

    Note:  The min discharge voltage (often called Terminate Voltage) can be found in the battery cell manufacturer datasheet.
