LM5156: DithOff in SEPIC configuration

Part Number: LM5156

I have two models on Webench for the LM5156 in a SEPIC configuration and BOTH have DITHOFF tied to VCC, disabling the dithering. The typical connections for a SEPIC in the data sheet show it enabled. Why is it disabled in the Webench design? The particular configuration is LM5156DSSR  ‑  18V-36V to 24.00V @ 0.5A

  • Hi Jack,

thank you for using the E2E forum.

The dithering function is up to the user and can be set based on the requirements for the application.

For this two different locations they most properly have been set randomly whereas for Webench it is a good point to make this setting user selectable.

    Best regards,

     Stefan

  • Hi Stefan,

I fully understand dithering is a user's choice and how it works. That was not the question.

Since both instances in Webench disabled dithering, there appears to be a preference toward that state. That can either be accidental or purposeful. If purposeful, I'd like the reasoning. The data sheet "typical" connections show dithering enabled, so a decision was made by someone to disable it.

    Bets Regards,
    Jack

  • Hi Jack,

no, this was just done to set the pin to a certain state and not keep it undefined.

As mentioned this decision should be done by the user as required.

    Best regards,

     Stefan
