Hello all,
I am an undergrad electrical engineering student at Michigan Tech. I am planning on creating an AC-DC SMPS using the reference designs, calculator, and documentation provided with UCC2853X.
Since the whole circuit uses and is heavily dependent on the magnetics, I am asking for some guidance on transformer selection.
I want to practice SMPS design and create many more power supplies in the future. Knowing that, would it be better for me to order custom transformers each time I create a design or should I get into the practice of designing with preexisting transformers?
Now if I am to use preexisting transformers I am confused as to how to pick one. Other properties describing crucial aspects of the transformer (like Al and B) are not included in the documentation (probably to keep the design confidential), but aren't those values extremely important to the function of the coil system in a flyback converter?
I am given primary inductance, DC resistances, and the turn ratios to design with. I have picked a transformer whose values I have input into the Excel design tool and am ready to assemble and test the circuit. What type of errors can I look forward to since I clearly lack the knowledge of magnetics?
Thanks for any help! I appreciate it!
