Motor protection solution.

Hi guys!

I have the same issue. I want to protect battery from SC/ Overcurrent on motors.

It is drone project, motors spec is up to 30A (60V from battery)

I see You suggest TPS4811-Q1, I guess I need 1 MOSFET configuration.

I also bothered in this case about BackEMF, I don't think simple TVS can solve this problem on this power.

Do You have some PDB (power delivery boards) evaluations, because for me it is not trivial to set SC protection on this power.

    Thanks for reaching out!

    TPS4811-Q1 can provide SC/ Overcurrent protection. Do you want to block the back EMF reaching the battery? or do you want to charge the battery from the motor during regenerative energy mode of operation.?

    We have TPS48111Q1EVM and TPS48110Q1EVM boards for evaluation.

    LM74910-Q1 is another option if you need reverse current blocking.

  • Thanks, I already found this solution with TPS4811.

    My main question: Is it ok to use this solution on high power inductive loads (60V30A)? I want to protect it with high power 95V clamp tvs like this 824520601.

    By default I don't want to use recuperation process. But It may solve also back EMF problem.

    Can You suggest some design for regenerative solution on 60v?

    I can describe problem:

    I have hydrogen battery 60v100a (it is not rechargeable from back emf). But I can put in parallel small LiIon (12s/14s) that can be a buffer for backEMF.

  • Also I want to ask, I like LM5066 instead of TPS4811, because it solves current measurement by PMbus, on TPS4811 I need to put ADCs orhave a long way from load switch to the MCU in noisy environment

    The output swings negative for inductive loads so we need a controller to handle output negative voltages,

    LM5066 cannot handle negative voltages like TPS4811

    We don't have reference design, please use EVMs for evaluation

    Please guide me to some EVM that can show me Back EMF regeneration  for 12s/14s battery 60V (10A+). I guess there should be some balancer and charger. Or any solution from TI that can help me solve this problem.
