TPS7B87-Q1: What do I do with the pin3 (GND) of the KVU package?

Part Number: TPS7B87-Q1

The datasheet clearly says pin 3 is ground, but looking at an image of this product (TPS7B8750QKVURQ1R2), the pin is entirely too short to make the connection on a PCB. so how do i make the connection to GND on pin 3, or is pin 3 internally connected to the thermal pad GND?

Hi James,

Thank you for pointing out the insufficient description. Pin 3 and the thermal pad are both connected to the lead frame and are connected to IC ground. I'll make a note to add more descriptive language in the next datasheet revision.

To be clear, I should float pin 3 and have a trace from the thermal pad to GND, correct?

Hi James,

That's correct. You can see this in the example layout at the end of the document:

You probably won't need to actually run a trace to ground from the thermal pad though, because you should use thermal vias that connect to GND layers for the thermal pad anyways.
