TPS23750: Gate not working on TPS23750

Part Number: TPS23750

I have an issue with the TPS23750, I have two boards, one is working with the fet from the eval board

The other is not working, the difference is in the FET and the diode. The problem is I never see the gate start switching on this circuit. How do I select the correct FET/ diode combination for the circuit? Or why isn't the gate working? I have also probed Vbias and Aux, the voltages look fine for those. Why are there no reccomendations for fet selection and diode selection in the documentation?

  • Hi Steven,

    Thanks for reaching out.

    DMT10H072LFDFQ-7 is 100-V 62 mOhm n-channel FET

    SUD06N10-225L-GE3 is 100-V 160 mOhm n-channel FET

Looks like both should be workable for your Class-3 power level. Do they have different packages?

Do you mean you tried these two different FETs on the EVM board but one can work while another cannot?

    Best regards,

    Diang

  • Yes, the FET/Diode combination on the same board does not work, I soldered on the FET\Diode from the EVAL board onto my board and it works. The origonal FET/diode combination for my design DMT10H072LFDFQ-7, V8PM12HM3_A/H (diode), does not work, it never starts switching.

  • Hi Steven,

Thanks for your information. So the test results reveal the following test results:

    DMT10H072LFDFQ-7 (100-V 62 mOhm n-channel FET) +  V8PM12HM3 (120-V 8-A Schottky): does not work

    SUD06N10-225L-GE3 (100-V 160 mOhm n-channel FET) + 6CWQ10FN (100-V 7-A Schottky): work

I think one thing you could try is increasing C3 capacitance which can make the gate driving circuit more stable against transient (you can try with 4.7 uF to 22 uF, voltage > 25V). The FET did not work may be caused due to it needs a too high gate driving power.

    Best regards,

    Diang
