UCC21540: minimum deadtime possible

Expert 5530 points
Part Number: UCC21540

Hi,

what is the minimum deadtime possible with the integrated deadtime generator? We need about 20 to 80ns - is this feasible with this part?

If this is possible, what would the part to part tolerance on deadtime be?

Other parts may be too expensive.

Regards

Andreas

  • Hi Andreas,

20ns to 80ns is feasible. You can control the deadtime all the way down to 0ns. An advantage of the inverse relationship between deadtime and input current is that the signal is strongest when deadtime is shortest.

The part to part tolerance should typically be very good (Typ=0ns). The device to device difference should be similar to the channel to channel deadtime matching specification. The datasheet specifies a max deviation of about 10%, but this is an abs-max that allows for temperature range variation and possible process variation. It becomes difficult to maintain deadtime accuracy above 1.6us due to noise and small input current to the DT pin.

You should try to upgrade to the UCC2155X family. It contains much needed improvements to this previous device revision.

    Best regards,

    Sean
