TPS4H000-Q1: Clarifications required Current sensing

Dear Team,

The output current of this IC is 750mA.

In the detailed design procedure we can see the below things.

May I know what you mean by nominal current(250) here. Does it mean if load current is more than 250mA the device shows fault condition.

"To set the adjustable current limit value at 2.5-A," Does it mean if load current is more than 250mA the device shows fault condition.

My load can take maximum of 650mA .Can i use the values of Rcs and Rcl as given in the datasheet.

Hi Hari,

The nominal current is the expected value of DC current that is to flow through the channel during operation. In your case this is 650mA to 700mA.

The calculation that is provided, makes sure that the nominal current range results in sense values that is in the recommended linear range to avoid any overlap with the fault voltage.

You can set the current limit to around 1A as well as you do not expect to see higher currents than than through your load.

While you cannot use the same values, you can use the same equations and all the equations in the datasheet to generate your values.

You can also use a EVM to test your theoretical values.

Hi Shreyas,

I can set Ics to 700mA (Equation-9 ) and Iout =1A (Equation 10)

Please correct me if I am wrong

Hi Hari,

ICS is the current out of the CS pin. Please set Iout to 700mA and not Ics to 700mA for Eq9.

Setting Iout to 1A is correct for Eq 10.

Is 2.5A written incorrectly in the specification? Should it be 0.5A?

Yes, there appears to be a typo as the equation is to set the current limit at 0.5A.
