TPS62876-Q1: How to understand droop compensation?

Part Number: TPS62876-Q1

Hi Expert

It's so simply to desirable droop compensation in TPS62876 DS so I am not fully understand why reduce output voltage can optimize load transient?

could you please share more materials to me?

  • Hi,

Please refer to section *, 8.3.7.5 Droop Compensation, in the datasheet. Additionally, please check the in our Typical applications in the datasheet, Figure 9-17. Load Transient Response, the effect on droop compensation.

Droop Compensation is a method used in devices to adjust the output voltage depending on the output current. It scales the nominal output voltage based on the output current. This is done such that the output voltage is set to a higher value with no output current and to a lower value than the nominal value with the maximum output current. Droop Compensation therefore provides a higher margin during a load transient and helps to keep the output voltage within a certain tolerance band in case of a heavy load step or at load release or allows to use a lower output capacitance. This may help to reduce voltage ripple in transient response.

    Thank you.

    Best Regards,
