LM63610-Q1: Short Circuit of LM63610-Q1

Part Number: LM63610-Q1

There are two questions about the output short circuit of LM63610-Q1.
(1) From the description of datasheet, there is inherent protection for output short circuit. Whether LM63610 will be damaged if the short circuit sustains without disabling the IC?
(2) There is no fault pin in LM63610, if it is required to inform MCU in the case of short circuit occurs at output, how to do this?
Is it possible to use reset pin for this purpose?
In our application, output of LM63610 is used to supply the other IC not MCU, so is there any risk or potential problem if reset signal is used to just inform the MCU via general I/O port?

  • Hi Jason,

Thank you for posting. To answer your questions:

    (1) the hiccup mode is intended to protect the IC but you should also verify this by experiment.

    (2) The RESET pin can be used as a fault reporting pin and used by the MCU:  in short circuit event, Vout drops and the RESET pin flips.

    Hope this clarifies.

    Best Regards,

    Youhao
