Battery fuel gauge for paralell cells

Hello,

I'm interested in using a battery fuel gauge for my PCB project. However, the PCB is designed to accommodate four Li-Po cells connected in parallel. Can I use a single-cell battery fuel gauge for this purpose for example BQ27441 ? I would greatly appreciate any insights or advice regarding this matter.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Lorant

  • Hello Lorant,

Placing battery in parallels should not be a problem. They will still be at the same voltage level. You might want to make sure they are all the same capacity level and also that you are not exceeding the max capacity threshold specified in the product page. Placing batteries in parallel increases the capacity of the pack. So four batteries of X capacity will have a total capacity of 4X. It is good to remark that the total current will increase as well.
