BQ25882: Minimum required equipment for the EVM

Part Number: BQ25882
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, EV2400

Hi team,

My customer is asking what is the minimum required equipment for this BQ.

The below chart includes EV2300/2400, but can this IC work without one? (standalone)

Thanks,

Luke

  • Hi Luke,

The minimum required equipment for this BQ will depend on the customer's expected tests. The minimum equipment to test charging would be a 5-V power supply and some kind of battery simulator. I would recommend an oscilloscope or voltage measuring tools to observe the device behavior.

The EV2400/EV2300 is the easiest way to test the device as it is compatible with our BQStudio software which allows direct visualization and access to the register bits, however it is not strictly necessary. Any device that can communicate via I2C such as a microcontroller can interface with the IC. The EV2400 pins can be used for any I2C bus and are labeled SDA, SCL, and GND for connection as needed.

As a standalone, the device can work with default register values however much of the functionality will not be available without I2C.

  • I asked this question to Mr. Sakamoto. My name is Ono.

The minimum equipment to test charging would be a 5-V power supply and some kind of battery simulator.
→ The user's guide says that it is a battery simulator (Four-quadrant supply set to constant voltage ≤ 9.2 V),
Is it possible to simply connect a battery and run the simulator?

As a standalone, the device can work with default register values however much of the functionality will not be available without I2C.
→Which functionality will not be available without I2C?

  • Hello Ono,

Either a battery simulator or a battery can be used on the output. We recommend a battery simulator to be able to quickly learn about the part at any operating point as opposed to having to wait for a charge or discharge cycle to occur.

All of the I2C registers and their features are not available if I2C is not used.
