UCC27714: UCC27714’s VSS and COM problem

Part Number: UCC27714

Is UCC27714’s VSS and COM the same GND? Customers want the two separate half-bridge drivers, they want to have the different GND between low-side GND and input GND.

They don’t use isolated driver because the cost of isolated drivers is higher. Can this be achieved by half-bridge drivers?

  • Hey Kevin,

Thank you for your question regarding the UCC27714.

VSS is the logic ground and according to section 6.3 Recommended Operating Conditions where all voltages are with respect to COM, the minimum VSS is -6V and the maximum is 5V. The simplified schematic diagram from page 1 of the datasheet has VSS and COM connected together with a wire as seen below. So, they are not connected directly internally.

So, if you were to try to use them separately, there is a potential for several volts of difference between the two pins.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thank you,

    William Moore
