TPS65988: TPS65988 overcurrent detection and protection

Part Number: TPS65988

Hi engineer:

When I looked at the datasheet of TPS65988DH, I found that there is overcurrent detection and protection inside the chip. What is the external reverse current protection circuit used for? What is the relationship between Q3 and ENABLE?

    THS.

  • Hi Johnsin,

The TPS65988 has 2 internal high voltage power paths that can be configured to either source or sink current and support reverse current protection to simplify power tree design in customer systems.

We generally do no support customers with external power path designs, but we show a very simple example power path that can get them started.  The reason that we support external power paths is to allow customers to have 2 DRP powers where the sink or source power path can be external.  For the case of an external sink power path that is connected into a complicated power tree, it may be beneficial to support Reverse Current Protection.

    Regards,

    Chuck
