LM74500-Q1: as a power switch

Part Number: LM74500-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74502-Q1, TPS22810, LM74502H-Q1, LM74502

Hi,

Is it possible to use the LM74500-Q1 as a power switch and reverse polarity protection for a 4-6V battery supply range?

  • Hi Shahar,

For Reverse polarity Protection + Output on/OFF control, you will need to drive two FETs in back-to-back configuration. The suitable device for this application would be using LM74502-Q1 as shown below.

  • Thanks!

a couple more question if I may:

what is the difference between the 74502 and the 74502H?

can I use the TPS22810 or is it just a switch without the RPP?

  • Hi Shahar,

LM74502-Q1 has slow GATE turn ON speed and is recommended to be used for inrush current control especially when you need to startup with capacitance at the output. In case you just need a fast turn ON and turn OFF switch without any inrush current limit requirement, then you can consider using LM74502H-Q1.

    TPS22810 does not has RPP.

Can you elaborate more on your requirement, Voltage range, Current rating, other features required ?

  • Hi Praveen,

It's for a hand held 4XAA batteries so voltage range is 4-6.5VDC, ~1.5A max. I need MCU controlled Switching of the main power bus (MCU is always powered in sleep mode) and RPP.

I can try either the TPS22810 in series with the LM74500, or just the LM4502H and see which gives me optimal efficiency. it seems that the LM74502 would be optimal and suite the requirements.

    Thanks for your help!
