LM74610-Q1: Ideal Diode Series Resistance

Hi,

I'm an EE for General Dynamics and we currently have your Ideal diode (LM74610QDGK) in our designs which works well. We have a new design being implemented that will require we put 750 ohms in series with the input of the device for nuclear exposure reasons. We would like to know if TI believes this added resistance will impact the performance of the ideal diode under normal (non-nuclear) conditions.

Hi John,

Can you confirm if the resistance position is as shown below ? If yes, this should not effect the functionality of the LM74610-Q1 deal diode controller.

Hi, yes that is where we would put the resistor. We had concerns that it may affect the charge pump capabilities.

Hi John,

The charge pump develops higher voltage from the voltage drop of the FET body diode (when the FET is OFF occasionally). The input series resistor should not cause any issue.

Can you tell us if the ideal diode is a CMOS based part or a bipolar based part or a mix? I couldn't find anything in the data sheet the indicated which.

Hi John,

May we know why this information is required ? We generally do not share the IC internal details. The details provided in the datasheet should be sufficient to design the circuit around IC.

This is with regards to nuclear exposure protection. When crowbaring is not possible a series resistance approach is taken and the resistance per volt from the power supply rail is different for CMOS vs Bipolar.
