TPS22965: Inrush current limiting function

Part Number: TPS22965
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS22992, TPS22950

Hello,

My customer is looking for a product that can implement mains DC/DC inrush current limiting in a small size and low cost.

They are trying to use TPS22965 for this. Please advise if their idea is appropriate.

Thank you.

JH

  • JH,

The TPS22965 can help with inrush current, however it does this by controlling the dv/dt on startup so that the current doesn't reach a level that would collapse your dc/dc converter. I would suggest TPS22992, however, as an alternative as the solution size will be better and it is a newer generation device with a newer manufacturing proccess/availability.

If you are looking for a true "current limiting" load switch where the output current is clamped to a custom level, I would suggest the TPS22950 in this case.
