TLV751: work condition confirm

Part Number: TLV751

Hi team,

I check that The TLV751 is a dual, adjustable, 500-mA low drop out (LDO) regulator. But I am not sure if 2 channel can provide 500mA at the same time, especially when their voltage between the input and output is large. Could you help check if the ambient temperature is 70℃, both of the output current is 500mA, and their voltage between the input and output is about 1~2V, can this device work normally?

  • Hey Hale,

    PD = (VIN-VOUT)(IOUT)

    PD1 = PD2 = (2V)(500mA)

    PD1 = PD2 = 1W

    TJ = TA + (PD1+PD2)*THETA-JA

    TJ = TA + [(1W + 1W)(74.6C/W)]

    TJ = TA +149C

    ROC TJ Max = 125C

    If the difference between VIN and VOUT on each output is 2V, this part will not work for you.

    Through very good PCB layout, the Theta-JA can be reduced by half. However, even with this accommodation, 70C + 74.6C would still be outside the range of the ROC.

    An empirical analysis of the impact of board layout on LDO thermal performance

    This should be more clear in our datasheets and I will pass this information to our systems team, thank you for letting us know.

    Best,

    Juliette
