UA79M: About types of input and output capacitors

Part Number: UA79M

Hello,

I would like to ask you a question about UA79M05.
The data sheet contains the following information regarding the capacitance of the input capacitor and output capacitor.
However, the type of capacitor is unknown.
Please tell me the type of capacitor.
Ceramic capacitors, electrolytic capacitors, etc.
Also, please let me know if there are any other recommended capacitance values.

(Contents listed in the data sheet)
All characteristics are measured with a 2-µF capacitor across the input and a 1-µF capacitor across the output.

Best regards,

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your question.

Nowadays it is much more common to see ceramic capacitors that tantalum due to their low ESR rating. I would advise the use of ceramic capacitors for the LDO due to their low ESR and high frequency performance which helps to filter out noise.

Yes, you are right. This is an older part so certain specifications are missing. I would stick in the range of what is tested within the characteristics as you have pointed out. 2 uF on input and 1 uF on output. I looked at the schematic of a test board that accepts multiple LDOs with a KVU package and they have a 1 uF on the input and a 10 uF on the output and normally I do see higher Cout than Cin but I would follow what the data sheet has constructed.

Since this is an older part, my recommendations would be what you see in the data sheet or at least in the ballpark.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thank you,

    Josh Nachassi
