TPS7A25: Acceptable reverse current without any damage

Part Number: TPS7A25

Hello team,

Customer uses TPS7A25 as below configuration. When 20V is connected, D1 is ON and D2 is OFF but small reverse current around 100uA flows from system to TPS7A25.

TPS7A25 datasheet says "Excessive reverse current can damage this device". What is the threathold of excessive reverse current?
If 100uA is not acceptable, do we need to add Schottky diode in parallel with TPS7A25 like Figure9-2?

  • Hi Koyo,

We usually limit reverse current to no more than 5% of the rated current for the device.  For the TPS7A25 that would be 15mA.  However, there is no guarantee that the TPS7A25 will survive repeated exposure to reverse current of this magnitude. If you are worried about reverse current in your application you should place a schottky diode from out to in as shown below.
