BQ25890: BQ25890 OTG query

Part Number: BQ25890

Hi

The customer design with BQ25890, when inserting an OTG device, there was 2.9A  peak current, which will pull the 3.6V battery to 2.6V, causing the system to restart.

Is there any way or register  to limit the peak current at this moment (setting a register OTG 500mA current limit is useless)

Attached the schematic.

Please help check it.

Thanks

Star

  • Hi Star,

If the boost mode current limit set in REG0A response time is too slow to prevent the battery voltage from dropping then there is not much which can be done from the perspective of the charger IC.

Also section 9.2.14.2.1 on page 31 of the datasheet outlines the BQ25890s response to a overcurrent event. It is expected for the charger to briefly cutoff the path to the OTG device.

The BQ25890 is only rated for OTG current up to 2.4A.Tthe customer will need to determine a way to soft start or limit the current draw from the OTG device.

    Best Regards,

    Garrett
