TPS54560: TPS54560 doesn't draw current

Part Number: TPS54560

Dear Sir and Madams,

I designed a PCB using the TPS54560, but my input power source is not providing any current.

I've checked the enable control of the TPS54560, and the voltage is stable, but the module is not coming into operation at all.

Despite having a relatively simple schematic, why do you think it's not working?

My pcb layout and schematic are in below.

Regards,

RA

  • Hi RA,

Can you show the values of the componets in the schematic?

Additionally, can you provide waveforms of Pin 2,3, and 8?

Lastly, can you confirm this behavior is seen on more than 1 unit?

  • Firstly thank you for answer Marshall.

    Component values:

    Pin8:

    Pin3:

    Pin2:

If I understood your last question correctly; I laid out 2 cards in the same way and the result is the same.

I checked the PCB design section to see if there were any errors, but I don't think there is an error in the altium drawing.

Frankly, I started to think that the direction of the TPS54560 module might be reversed, but how could the reference point of pin 1 be wrong?

  • Hi RA, looks like you are using the datasheet example schematic, which is good as it is proven-out.

The layout could be improved on. Some criticial traces have excessive routing to them which isn't ideal (ie: BOOT, RT, FB, COMP)

It is recommended to do the passive and IC layout in one assembly layer and minimize track length.

I would advise evaluating your IC on the EVM and confirm if the behavior remains.

I am worried about the layout and do suggest you eventually revise it.

I am not sure. Which authorized, TI vendor did you procure the units from?

  • I am grateful for your answer and support.

I ordered the evaluation module. And I will revise my design.

After my design is finished, can I send it to you so you can give feedback?

  • Hi Ramazan. You are welcome. I am happy to help.

Sounds good, yes send me your design once finished for review.
