BQEVSW: Select ID chemistry

Hi Pawel,

Updating ChemID should not affect the detection of the target device. When you first opened bqEASY, were you able to communicate?

Please see this thread for debugging examples.

This is an old device, any reason why you would not upgrade to BQ40z50-R2? This is the next generation.

When pressing OK-Update Fuel Gauge Data Flash in bq Easy 

at first I have communication but after 1/4 of progress will display such a message.

The error you get seems more related to the actual device not being detected rather than the ChemID updater feature. 

To make sure, does everything operate normally before trying to update the ChemID? In other words, do you get this error only when you try using the ChemID?

The device is correctly recognized when you run BQEVSW.

Communication with the chip is correct.

The problem starts when using BQEASY.

Attempts to save the configuration result in the presented errors.

Hi Pawel,

This is an old device. Engineers who used to support this device are not around anymore. I will try doing some digging, but this issue is very strange.

The next generation devices use the most updated user interface software called bqStudio.

Hi Pawel,

A colleague of mine was able to reproduce this error when the "Keep Scanning" button was checked. Please see below.




If scanning feature is ON, it will try to talk to the device while programming the new firmware. This causes issues.

This is not the case.

I upload a screenshot of the program.

The first time I start bqEASY I get this message.

This message started appearing after the chemistry update.

Now, when I try to change id chemistry, I get this message.

And then the message I sent previously.

Please ensure you are using latest BQ20z45-R1 and latest chemistry updater.

Hi Jose,

I've followed your suggestion and installed the program including the latest chemistry update on another computer.

I have the impression that the bqEASY module is not stable.

The first time I update chemistry on my device, I get the same message.

On the second attempt, the message is already like this.

The next attempt is successful or the previous message I posted,

but already in a different place on the progress line.

I would like to add that every time after a failed chemistry update I have to unseal the device.

Hello Pawel,

The BQEASY software is no longer maintained by TI, it is a legacy software and all new devices have moved to BQStudio. Sometimes it is unstable on the newer operating systems, I believe it is only tested until windows 7.

I understand, but there are still a lot of older generation chips in use where they can be programmed with BQEVSW.

I've tested this software on different Windows systems, including 7, and every time the result is the same - unstable operation of the bqeasy module.

So I'm not sure if the chip was programmed correctly.

Can the language version of windows affect the correct operation of BQEVSW?

As mentioned by Wyatt, this is a legacy software, the support on this software is limited. 

I suggest to upgrade to next generation devices like BQ40z50. This one uses the latest software BQStudio.

Among other things, I deal with the regeneration of batteries in laptops.

I have a lot of batteries with an older generation chip from the bq20z70 or bq20z45 series.

If you could program them in bqstudio, that would be great.

But I don't think that's possible, that's why I want your help with the BQEVSW software.

with  ID chemistry1321.

Check if the information about this cell has been uploaded correctly.

The cell is a ICR18650-22F SDI.

Maybe even though the software is stuttering, the information was uploaded correctly.

Are you asking where I got this firmware version from?

I ripped it from a new chipset I bought from the store, which I mounted in the damaged battery pcb.

Unless you're asking what program I used to zip.

I did it with 7zip.

I had this program installed from the beginning.

Yes, I'm watching my EV2400 controller and it seems to me that it loses communication for a moment when using the bqeasy module.

Can the firmware version of the controller affect the compatibility with bqeasy?

I have version 0.32 installed.

There are no problems when using bqstudio.

I have one more question.

How do I know which latest firmware version I can install on my bq20z45 chipset?

On the dice there is a symbol like this bq20z45 17TG4 CLC6.

Hi Pawel,

The EV2400 version might affect the compatibility. You might want to try with the lower version which I think it is v.18

Alternatively, do you have an EV2300? I think the EVSW was originally designed with the EV2300.
